Description of the service MODERN-A: Moodle

MODERN-A: "MODERNization in partnership through digitalization of the Academic ecosystem" is project under the Operational Program "Science and Education for Smart Growth", co-financed by the European Social Fund. The main goal of the project is to increase the quality of higher education in the partner network by creating of a successful model for sustainable cooperation aimed at the modernization of the higher education system. Moodle is an e-learning system for the learning activities offered by the partner network.

The platform offers access to institutional or inter-institutional courses to authenticated/authorized users belonging to institutions of the federation. The open ones courses can be accessed by guests without having a user profile.

Description of the BREN/EDUGAIN service

BREN (Bulgarian Research and Education Network) is the Bulgarian Federation for authentication and authorization of the Bulgarian educational, cultural, and research institutions. eduGAIN provides an efficient, flexible way for participating federations and their associated users and interconnection services with only one trusted identity provided by the consumer's institution. Both federations aiming to offer common framework for accessing shared online resources, work with single sign-on (SSO), so a user only needs to log in once during a session on the browser.

Researchers, students and staff (known as Users) may use your institution's credentials to access web services (called service providers) exhibited by all federal institutions such as avoid multiple user registrations.

Any institution that exposes an authentication service to service providers is called Identity provider, providing advanced security features and strict privacy policies regarding mandatory laws.

Cookies

Authentication data (username, password) is not shared between entities, but cookies are exchanged for temporary storage of SSL encrypted tokens to the user is authenticated.

Log files

System and platform log files are kept for 1 year from the last login. Logs are saved, properly maintained and can be provided to the judicial authority only in the event of a security incident.

Attributes

The following attributes are required to access Moodle: EduPersonPrincinpalName, mail, givenName, sn.

If available, are also used Affiliation and EduPersonEntitlement to consent to automatic enrollment in special courses involving specific agreements between the institutions.
